The City has now installed all the signs that I requested for the two courts in our neighbourhood, that being Sedona and Magenta Courts. They have also have installed 3 "Children Playing signs" surrounding the park.  These added signs will hopefully make our neighbourhood a safer place by making motorists aware of their surroundings. Many thanks for City Staff and crews for their quick installation.

December 15, 2006

There is now a dead end sign installed on Sedona Court: hopefully this will eliminate a lot of cars travelling up the street, and make it safer for the children also.

November 23, 2006

The photos of the Hallowe'en House Decorating Contest winners are now up.

October 23, 2006

I am happy to report that The Traffic Department has announced that we will be getting signs installed on the streets in question, hopefully this will decrease the traffic flow. Many thanks to City Hall for a quick response, the signs are going to be installed by the end of the year.

On October 21, 2006, we planted 250 pink tulip bulbs, courtesy of Sherry Duvall, wife of Ward 7 Councilor Scott Duvall. These tulips were donated by Avon Canada as part of their crusade in support of breast cancer research for the Avon Flame Foundation, and planted by the children of Allison Park during our annual Pumpkinfest. See photos here.

October 10, 2006

I have formally made a request to City Hall to see about installing Dead End signs on Sedona and Magenta Courts. This is in response to complaints about excess traffic and children safety issues.

TEMPORARY NO PARKING BAN

Neighbours, there is a temporary parking ban being placed on your side of the street due to the situation that developed with the lack of access for Emergency vehicles on our street.

This will be in effect until you have access back into your driveways and Emergency vehicles have full accessibility again. Yesterday a school bus also got stuck on the corner and it created  quite a problem as it had to back up and parents could not locate their children as the bus could not use its assigned drop-off point.

There is plenty of parking down Jacqueline Blvd for your convenience and also around the park.

Please note that this is a Safety issue and is only temporary.

Many thanks for your understanding and co-operation.

Please visit our website and see all the updates!!

You may have noticed that we have several new trees in the park!

These trees were planted as part of the 'Park beautification programme" and did not cost us anything.

Come on by the park and take a look, they are good size trees, 10 footers-20 feet high.

November 2, 2005

Last night Tuesday Nov 1, 2005 there was a meeting at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Upper James regarding the redevelopment of the old Ryckman School. This property has now been sold to a developer, and they presented their proposed plan for redevelopment.

On hand were Counsellor Bill Kelly, 2 representatives from the developing company, and 2 City officials.

The meeting was an information meeting, and it was stressed throughout the meeting that this submission for 18 new houses is not final by any means.

It was a very informative and "spirited" meeting, many residents of the old Allison neighbourhood had many opinions to express about why they did not agree to the submitted plan.

The main objection was there where to many houses being proposed, lot sizes where to small, and the re-classification of the neighbourhood from a Class B to a Class C designation.

In talking to neighbours after the meeting, and later that night, it seemed the few I talked to had a different idea of a proposed plan, from 18 to 12 houses, this will be better discussed once a forum can be called again.

I welcome any feedback from residents about this issue and any other items that they have a concern over in relation to the redevelopment of the property.
